Recipe for Rich and Creamy Hot Chocolate

Ingredients
- 500 milliliters whole milk
- 100 grams dark chocolate with 70 percent cocoa
- 15 grams cocoa powder
- 20 grams sugar
- 2 grams vanilla extract
Preparation
- Whisk the cocoa powder and sugar into 500 milliliters milk in a small saucepan
- Heat the milk for 5 minutes until it is steaming but not boiling
- Add the chopped dark chocolate and vanilla extract to the hot milk
- Whisk the mixture constantly for 3 minutes until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth
- Continue to heat for 1 more minute until the drink is thick and glossy
- Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream
Tips
- Use high-quality bar chocolate instead of chocolate chips for a much smoother melt
- Do not let the milk boil as it can scald the chocolate and create a grainy texture
- Add a pinch of salt to the mixture to enhance the chocolate flavor and balance the sweetness
