Recipe for Rich and Creamy Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 500 milliliters whole milk
  • 100 grams dark chocolate with 70 percent cocoa
  • 15 grams cocoa powder
  • 20 grams sugar
  • 2 grams vanilla extract

Preparation

  1. Whisk the cocoa powder and sugar into 500 milliliters milk in a small saucepan
  2. Heat the milk for 5 minutes until it is steaming but not boiling
  3. Add the chopped dark chocolate and vanilla extract to the hot milk
  4. Whisk the mixture constantly for 3 minutes until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth
  5. Continue to heat for 1 more minute until the drink is thick and glossy
  6. Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream

Tips

  • Use high-quality bar chocolate instead of chocolate chips for a much smoother melt
  • Do not let the milk boil as it can scald the chocolate and create a grainy texture
  • Add a pinch of salt to the mixture to enhance the chocolate flavor and balance the sweetness
