Preparation Time
30 minutes
Ingredients
Dough
- 250ml water
- 50g butter
- 150g all-purpose flour
- 2g salt
- 1 large egg
- 500ml frying oil
Coating
- 100g granulated sugar
- 10g ground cinnamon
Preparation
Dough
- Boil 250ml water and 50g butter in a pot then stir in 150g flour and salt until a stiff dough forms
- Remove from the heat and allow to cool slightly before mixing in the egg until combined
- Pipe the dough into 10cm lengths onto parchment paper
Coating
- Heat oil to 180 Celsius and fry the dough strips for 4 minutes until they are crunchy and dark gold
- While frying, mix 100g sugar and 10g cinnamon in a shallow bowl
- Remove the hot churros from the oil and toss them in the cinnamon sugar until completely coated
Tips
- Coat the churros in the sugar mixture while they are still hot so the sugar adheres better
- For an extra airy texture, make sure the water and butter are at a rolling boil before adding flour
- Serve these warm as they lose their signature crunch if left to sit for too long
