Recipe for Classic BLT

A classic BLT with crisp bacon, seasoned tomato, fresh lettuce, and toasted bread with mayonnaise.

Serves: 2 people (2 sandwiches)
Total time: 25–30 minutes

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 6–8 slices thick-cut bacon
  • 1 large ripe tomato, sliced ¼-inch thick
  • 4–6 leaves iceberg or butter/Bibb lettuce
  • 4 slices white bread, sourdough, or milk bread

Supporting Ingredients

  • 2–3 tbsp mayonnaise

Seasonings

  • Flaky sea salt
  • Freshly cracked black pepper

Instructions

  1. Slice tomatoes, lay on paper towels, lightly salt, and rest for 10 minutes. Pat dry.
  2. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Lay bacon flat on a lined baking sheet and bake 15–20 minutes until crisp. Drain on paper towels.
  3. Toast bread in a skillet with a small amount of bacon fat or butter, one side only, until golden.
  4. Place bread toasted-side out. Spread mayo on the soft sides. Layer lettuce, tomatoes (pepper to taste), then bacon. Close sandwich.
  5. Serve immediately.

Tips

  • Always salt tomatoes.
  • Keep lettuce against the bread to prevent sogginess.
  • Break bacon strips for even coverage.
