Ingredients

Patty

  • 800 grams ground beef with 20 percent fat
  • 10 grams salt
  • 5 grams black pepper
  • 15 milliliters vegetable oil

Toppings

  • 4 brioche buns
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 1 red onion, sliced

Preparation

Patty

  1. Gently divide the beef into 4 equal portions and shape them into 2 centimeters thick patties
  2. Use your thumb to make a small indent in the center of each patty
  3. Season both sides generously with salt and black pepper just before cooking

Cooking

  1. Heat 15 milliliters oil in a skillet or grill and cook patties for 4 minutes per side
  2. Place a cheese slice on each patty during the last minute and cover the pan to melt
  3. Toast the halved buns and assemble with lettuce, tomato, onion, and the beef patty

Tips

  • Use ground beef with at least 20 percent fat to ensure the burger stays juicy
  • Do not overwork the meat when shaping the patties or the burger will become tough
  • Always toast the buns to create a barrier that prevents the juices from making the bread soggy
