Recipe for Authentic Greek Horiatiki Salad

This Greek salad consists of tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, peppers, olives, and feta cheese with oil.

Ingredients

  • 4 large ripe tomatoes
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 red onion
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 100 grams kalamata olives
  • 200 grams feta cheese block
  • 60 milliliters extra virgin olive oil
  • 15 milliliters red wine vinegar
  • 5 grams dried oregano
  • 2 grams salt

Preparation

  1. Wash all vegetables thoroughly under cold water
  2. Cut tomatoes and cucumbers into large chunks
  3. Slice the red onion and green pepper into thin rings
  4. Combine vegetables and olives in a shallow bowl
  5. Drizzle with 60 milliliters olive oil and 15 milliliters vinegar
  6. Season with salt and oregano
  7. Place the whole block of feta on top of the salad
  8. Garnish with extra oregano and a splash of oil before serving

Tips

  • Use only high-quality Greek extra virgin olive oil for the best flavor
  • Do not add lettuce as it is never used in an authentic Horiatiki
  • Choose the ripest tomatoes available for the most juice and sweetness
